Today oil is responsible for around 45% of Iran’s total budget.Iran’s oil industry has been under government control since the Revolution of 1979, and around 60% of Iran’s economy remains in state hands.
In recent years the Iranian government has announced plans to modernise the economy and encourage foreign investment. The initiative has started to bear fruit –Iran has succeeded in making exciting developments in the pharmaceutical, biotech and nanotechnology industries, for example.
