Partner and Chief Strategy Officer, GHJ (HLB USA)

My journey into the world of advisory and accounting was not a path I embarked upon alone. It has been a voyage enriched by the collective strength of mentors, allies and an unwavering belief in the transformative power of collaboration and diversity.

The finance and professional services sectors were arenas where tradition often overshadowed innovation. Entering this world, I found myself navigating the complexities and challenges of industries known for their rigorous structures and, at times, their resistance to change. Yet, it was within these constraints that I discovered my passion for challenging the status quo and using my unique perspective to foster inclusive growth and transformation.

Rising through the ranks, my career has been a series of deliberate steps towards not just personal achievement but also the cultivation of environments where diversity of thought and inclusivity are the bedrock of success. At GHJ, stepping into the role of Partner and Chief Strategy Officer, I broke new ground as the first non-CPA member of the Partner Group. This milestone was not just a personal victory but a reflection of GHJ's commitment to embracing diverse talents and perspectives. I was significantly supported by GHJ Managing Partner and HLB USA Chair Tom Barry, whose belief in my abilities and potential was instrumental in achieving this landmark.

My leadership journey has been deeply influenced by the belief that true growth stems from empowering others. By fostering GHJ's #BeMore culture, I endeavored to create a space where every team member feels valued and inspired to reach their fullest potential. Mentoring colleagues on their path to partnership, I have seen firsthand how nurturing talent and encouraging diverse voices can drive meaningful change and propel our industry forward. Allyship has been a cornerstone of my leadership philosophy, because I believe that progress and innovation are achieved through mutual support and the recognition of each individual's unique contributions.

On a global scale, my work with HLB has offered me a platform to influence and shape business practices around the world. This role has underscored the importance of advisory services transformation and reinforced my conviction in the power of diversity of thought for achieving superior outcomes for clients and the industry at large.

Throughout this journey, I was equipped with my own superpower: living with invisible disabilities has imbued my leadership style with empathy and a commitment to advocating for environments where everyone can succeed. This experience has taught me the value of listening, adapting and ensuring that our workplaces are accessible and inclusive for all.

To women navigating their careers, my journey is a reminder that your path is uniquely yours. It will be shaped by the allies you find and those you support in return. Embrace your journey, challenge the norms and remember that your unique perspective is not just valuable — it is essential. Our diverse experiences are not just our challenges; they are our strengths, and it is through embracing these that we can truly make a difference.

My career stands as a beacon for the power of allyship and the belief that together, we can pave the way for a more inclusive and dynamic future.
