Eritrea

The State of Eritrea is situated in the Horn of Africa, and shares borders with Sudan, Djibouti and Ethiopia. Asmara is the country’s capital and largest city.

Eritrea’s economy has grown rapidly in recent years. In 2011 the economy grew by nearly 9%, making it the fastest growing economy in the world, and the government has largely succeeded in maintaining strong growth rates.

Around 80% of Eritrea’s workforce are employed in agriculture. Important crops include barley, beans, lentils and wheat. Industry has grown steadily since independence, and today accounts for around 34% of GDP. Key industries include food and beverage processing, textiles, salt, cement, and ship repair.
